The battery box gets countersunk to accept the AN426ADx rivets that attach it to the firewall and to itself. In fact, the original revision of the plans had an error which caused many of us early builders to instead dimple the #30 holes attaching the box to the firewall (described here). Regardless of which holes that need countersinking (the "right" or "wrong" ones), some of the holes are difficult to reach with a countersink bit. So I used a threaded drill extension.
